  • The Waverley

    The world’s last seagoing paddle steamer

Fairlie is the home of the world famous Fife yachts and is also Scotland’s First Fairtrade Village. Even if you come here for a special occasion, to spend time visiting family and friends, to sail, or golf, or trace your roots, you can still enjoy a wander along the beach or a walk up Fairlie Glen, Kaim Hill, and out on to the moor for spectacular views.

Fairlie is also the ideal base for all sorts of activity on land and sea. By catching any one of the four ferries, within a 10- to 25-minute drive from Ferry Row, you could:

  • Experience the beautiful Isle of Arran on a day-trip from Ardrossan.
  • Walk or cycle round ‘the big Cumbrae’ – only a 10 minute crossing from Largs.
  • Cross the Clyde from Wemyss Bay to Rothesay on the Isle of Bute, with its ancient castle, Victorian heritage, and the unique Mount Stuart House.
  • Explore Dunoon and the Cowal peninsula by driving a few miles further north on the A78 and taking the Western Ferry.

Not forgetting the wonderful paddle steamer Waverley cruising to various locations from Largs in July and August.

If land suits you better, you could try a couple of sections of the Ayrshire Coastal Path and if you miss the bus or train back, we can even pick you up. Or sample the many activities on offer at Kelburn Estate not least the famous Graffiti on the castle walls.

The seaside town of Largs is only 3 miles away – a pleasant walk of under an hour with a good local bus service to bring you back after you have explored its shops, walked along the Prom and had ice cream from the famous Art Deco Nardini’s cafe.

The Vikingar centre and Largs Yacht Haven can easily while away the time as can the various cafes and restaurants.

Further afield the rest of Ayrshire has yet more to offer within easy reach of Ferry Row B&B.
